OVW no longer with WWE??

With the announcement of a reformed ECW, it has been rumored that Ohio Valley Wrestling would be dropped as a WWE developmental territory, and that WWE would be purchasing the rights to it's footage of WWE superstars in their early days, including current WWE Heavyweight Champion John Cena. With this purchase of the entire OVW video archives, and with Paul Heyman moving from OVW to head up the new ECW project, it seems that OVW's status as a WWE developmental territory may soon come to an end.

Ohio Valley Wrestling was founded in March of 1996 as an independent promotion based in Louisville, Kentucky owned by former WWF referee and performer "Dangerous" Danny Davis. It served as an NWA territory from 1998 to 2001, when it became the primary developmental affiliate of the World Wrestling Federation. It's former Heavyweight Champions include current WWE performers John Cena, Dave Batista, Eugene, Rob Conway, Simon Dean, Johnny of the Spirit Squad and both Basham brothers, as well as former roster members Muhammad Hassan Rico, Matt Morgan and Chad Dick. It's current Heavyweight Champion is Smackdown newcomer Gunner Scott. Most wrestled under different names and gimmicks in OVW that were never brought to WWE television.
personally i think WWE should keep OVW as it's development territory, it has done great for them and i hope WWE aren't thinking of turning ECW into a development territory because that would suck so badly and kill the ECW feel

Sending young guys to ECW would do wonders for their skill and workrate, and also knock respect and humility into them. WWE has had too many young guys with bigger egos (Brock, Randy etc) ECW's strong work ethic and foundation on respect for the business could be ideal. Not to the detriment of ECW's product however, the balance has to be struck. Also ECW will probably allow them a taste of international exposure, and that too is a very useful idea.

The thing to remember is that it is unlikely to be ECW as it was..........No matter how much control Heyman and Dreamer get, Vince will still have the ultimate say on what goes on.....so while I welcome the news that ECW is coming back......I don't put all my hope into it being exactly like the original.

They still have South Georgia as the developmental area - I think they just chose one to "remove" from their pay, and OVW got the chop (it was probably costing them more).

It's a shame about OVW, I always tried to keep up with what was happening each month but unless you live in Ohio and can therefore go each week (something I would probably do) then it's very difficult.

It would be great to keep it though, just to develop people. If people know they are watching stars of tomorrow then they will pay to watch OVW if the shows become more widely available.

Cheers!

I thought that that was the plan from day one, I remember reading when they first said ECW was comming back that it was going to be a feeder company for WWE, as Hayman books/runs OVW anyway he would just carry on doing that but as ECW... I may have been wrong tho and mixed up somewhere.

I am not really too bothered if OVW goes or not just as long as ECW is allowed to be old ECW attitude (not all move restricted etc) then I wouldn't care at all
