My favorite Wrestlemania moment was Stone Cold Steve Austin siding with Vince McMahon at the end of Wrestlemania 17 during his match with The Rock. Wrestlemania 17 is widely regarded as the best Wrestlemania of all time with matches such as Taker/HHH, Benoit/Angle and the TLC match with Hardys/Dudleys/Edge and Christian. Despite all these great matches it was Steve Austin vs The Rock that is the match you think of when someone say's Wrestlemania 17.
Stone Cold and The Rock were the two biggest stars of the time and for that matter the two biggest stars since Hulk Hogan. This match would be for the WWF Championship and the fued centering around Steve Austin doing anything he could to walk out of the Reliant Astrodome with the belt. At the start of the match it was announced that the match would be no DQ, a move that suprised alot of people but it put all the factors in place for the big finish. The match was a classic which nearly went 30 minutes, the action went back and forth with the crowd hot in to it mostly behind Austin. As the match was drawing to a close, Vince McMahon made his way to the ring and the wrestling world was about to be changed forever. The Rock hit the people elbow and everyone thought this ist it, The Rock has retained and then Vince McMahon jumps in the ring and pulls The Rock off ofAustin and everyone is still confused as to what has just transpired. It wasn't until McMahon handed Austin the chair, which he proceeded to beat The Rock with that we realised that Stone Cold Steve Austin had joined forces with his arch-nemesis of many years Vince McMahon. Wrestlemania went off the air with Austin and McMahon drinking a beer together after shaking hands, it was an image we though we would never see. I would regard this as my favorite moment becuase it epitomised everything I and every other fan around the world love about pro wrestling. It had action, drama, entertainment, athleticism and a mighty supprise. This is indeed to me the WWF/WWE at its peak and i'm just glad I can say I was watching when Austin and McMahon shocked the world.

There was a young man called Trips,
with Chyna he did lock lips, he's stil in pain yeah after he faced Warrior at 'Mania thats right the man with damaged hips! Thats right, Benoit winning the gold meant the most to me at the time, but as I go on I appreciate HHH getting squashed so much more, as I hope my little limerick tells.

This sounds like an odd favourite moment, but for me it would have to be during the TLC2 match at Wrestlemania 17 when Rhyno pushed over the ladder which Bubba Ray Dudley and Matt Hardy were standing on, causing the two men to crash through the tables on the floor. Even when i watch that moment almost 8 years later i still get the same "woooah" feeling as i did back then, everything about that spot went so right and it looked so awesome! That match is one of my all-time favourites and Wrestlemania 17 was my first and favourite ever Wrestlemania.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment was at Wrestlemania 22.
ECW was dead, and hardcore wrestling was becoming a thing of the past tainted by the WWE's comical Hardcore division that a dried up years earlier. Up stepped Edge and Hardcore legend Mick Foley. Foleys match the previous year with Randy Orton was off the charts and was not something I expected to see topped. But Edge and Foley gave it their all in this match, they destroyed their bodies for their wrestlemania moment which has to be one of the greatest wrestlemania moments ever, Edge spearing Mick Foley off the apron through a flaming table. They'd had one of the greatest hardcore matches on the grandest stage of them all, and adapted it to have brilliant story telling and keep the fans on the edge of their seat the whole time. |

I've been watching a lot of Mania lately to get in the mood...for the PPV, obviously, and as much as I loved them I still couldnt find anything in Manias 21-24 to compare to what has to still be my favourite Mania moment - the end of Wrestlemania XX.
It was my first Mania and I was still a mark, 2004 in general still holds a special place in my wrestling heart. Without fully knowing about or appreciating the extent of Benoit's career odyssey, they pushed it, and him, well enough on TV in the build for me to get behind him and want him to win. Ditto for Eddie in a similar way. He was so damn likeable. The build for the WHC with the HBK/HHH feud continuing while Benoit inserted himself into the picture was great, I liked it. The match itself felt like a big match, and it delivered in a huge way, with a perfect finish. I've watched the match probably 10 times by now, and yet I do not fail to get emotional when I watch Benoit's reaction, even post-murders. He and Eddie drowning in a hail of confetti and embracing as the grizzled veterans who had finally, finally done it was just incredible. Just a perfect wrestling moment. |

My favourite Wrestlemania moment, besides the time that Chris Benoit didn't win the World title because he was sh*t, was during the main event of Wrestlemania 22. At that point, I was THE John Cena mark of these here forums and I had only blind hope that he would be able to overcome the undefeatable odds laid in front of him in the human and tangible form of Triple H. Match time came and, after a fantastic sequence of entrances that featured CM Punk playing the role he was born to be cast in (as background noise to make the real stars look as great as they are), the two gladiators took to each other with every punch, every kick, every knee and every other move in their arsenal. The crowd added to the contest with their constant cheering of HHH and their booing of Cena, showing how much they actually cared about him as he laughed all the way to the bank with their ticket money to buy his new car (which debuted at Wrestlemania 23), and Jim Ross was fantastic as always. You can only imagine how bad it would have been had Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman had been given the chance to call it - but they got their wish and ruined the main event two years later. Regardless, after months of struggling, Cena finally locked in the STFU and HHH, against all hopes of the marks and all expectations of the smarks, tapped his beady little whining hand on the canvas and Cena was declared victorious as was his right to be.
An emotional rollercoaster and far better than anything involving a murderer. |

My favourite Mania moment has to be from Wrestlemania 4 - the first Wrestlemania I watched back in 1988. Macho Man winning the vacant WWF title in the final of the PPV's tourney by beating Ted Dibiase. Savage had battled through 3 previous opponents - Greg Valentine, Butch Reed and The One Man Gang but all the odds were still against him, seeing as the Million Dollar Man had 'The Eighth Wonder of the World' Andre The Giant in his corner, where as Savage just had Miss Elizabeth in his corner.
At the time I wasn't a huge fan of Hulk Hogan but it was pretty cool when Liz fetched out the Hulkster to even things out. Savage eventually got the win to be crowned the new title holder. Liz was hoisted up onto the champs shoulders and Land of Hope and Glory played. Liz shed a few tears. That is a moment I'll never forget. The good guys won and the evil Million Dollar Man didn't get his mits on the gold. You don't often get emotion like that in wrestling these days.
