April 1st 2007,
Wrestlemania 23 had a moment that I'll probaly always remember. It was during the Money in the bank ladder match. The competitors were Mr.Kennedy, Edge, King Booker, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Finlay,CM Punk, and Randy Orton. The moment took place about halfway through the match. Matt Hardy was working on Edge outside the ring while Jeff Hardy was setting up a ladder so he could grab the briefcase. But Matt Hardy had a ladder too. He layed the ladder so that is was on the ring and the security wall. He layed Edge down on it. By that time Jeff was already close to the top. But then Matt called out to him. He told Jeff to not get the briefcase and get Edge. Like usual Jeff listened to his brother. Jeff jumped off the top of the ladder and landed on Edge, who was still lying on the ladder below. So Jeff broke the ladder with that dive and ended the night for both him and Edge. Mr. Kennedy went on to win the match. It's memorable to me because of 1. Jeff Hardy broke the ladder and almost broke Edge in half. 2. Jeff made a stupid move of not getting the briefcase. It really caught up with him in the long run because how many WWE titles and/or World heavyweight titles has he had? One? |

For me: Wrestlemania XII. Shawn Michaels kneeling in the ring, looking down at the WWF Championship belt that he'd just won. It was the cementing of HBK as a major player in wrestling, something I had waited for since I got into WWF/E in 1992. The fact he finally overcame his nemesis Bret Hart for it was the icing on the cake.

My favourite memory of Wrestlemania would be going to see Wrestlemania 18 at Skydome in Toronto.
What a night. We got the tickets from a friend who had some connections so we had fantastic seats about 8 rows back from the stage. The excitement in the arena was unbelievable. Almost everyone who was anyone was there that night, Hogan, Rock, Austin, HHH, Taker, Kane, Flair and Diamond Dallas Page. They really played to the Canadian crowd by having Edge, Christian on the card with Chris Jericho featured in the main event. Every match was better than the next and the Hardcore Title which was under the 24/7 rules changed hands at least 3-4 times, if I remember correctly, with Test losing it has he left the arena. When they showed that on the Jumbotron the over 69,000 in attendance went nuts. The biggest surprise of the night was when the Rock and Hogan were introduced. I assumed that everyone would be behind the Rock, but Hogan definitely got the biggest pop of the two. The main event was HHH against Jericho/Stephanie McMahon. We were all disappointed when Jericho lost but it was one hell of an evening and one I’ll never forget. I found out later that it was in a way a historic PPV, as it was the last time a PPV was held under the old WWF logo. Next time Wrestlemania comes to Toronto, I’ll be there again.

I know its a cliché to say it but Hogan slamming Andre at Wrestlemania III is my fave Wrestlemania moment and that is because it was the first 'big' moment in wrestling I ever saw. I was only about 5 years old and hadn't seen a PPV before then the local shop started selling VHS's of Wrestlemania, Survivor Series and Summerslam so I saved my money together and bought Wrestlemania II & III.
I watched III first for some reason I forget now and was really enjoying the undercard as I hadn't seen much WWF programming just the odd Saturday Nights Main Event and then it came to the main event and I was stunned by it, being so young really helped that as I was far less cynical and much more easily amazed at the size of Andre. During the match when Hogan tried to slam Andre but hurt his back due to the weight of the giant I was holding my breath and cheering Hogan on like mad and when ever Andre was on the attack I would boo and call for Hogan to get up, like all kids do I guess. Then came the end of the match, 'the slam heard around the world' as it became known (although I found out much later it wasn't the first time Andre had been slammed), as soon as Hogan went for the slam I still remember getting to my feet and shouting my lungs out as he lifted the giant up and slammed him down. After that moment I didn't care what else happened in the match, I was just marking out too hard That moment set me on a life long love of wrestling, and for that reason will always be my favourite moment deep down as it keeps the innocent little kid alive in me and reminds me of what its like to be truly amazed by wrestling.

Hogan and Rock standing face-to-face and nose-to-nose at the start of their Wrestlemania X8 match is my ultimate Wrestlemania moment. For me, it encapsulated everything that Wrestlemania is meant to represent in a single shot.
A close second is The Ultimate Warrior pinning Randy Savage, with a foot to the chest, at the end of their Wrestlemania VII "Loser Must Retire" contest.

Benoit and Eddie hugging centre of the ring. Is my favourite moment. Having invested and believed in both wrestlers it was great to see Benoit get the big one after years of hard work and dedication. The look of elation was magical and when they embraced you could see what it meant to both wrestlers. I will never forget that moment and as much as WWE want to erase it from history it was one of the few times that wrestling made me cry.

My favourite WrestleMania moment has to be Austin winning the belt at WM14.
Not the greatest match ever, hell not even the greatest Mania match ever but I think it was probably the most important ever.It was the start of the attitude era and the WWF needed a star and by God did they get one. If you look back at it now I don't think anyone could have seen how big Austin was going to get but one thing for sure is after that night you knew you saw it comming. |

My favourite Wrestlemania Moment.
Ask a wrestling fan for two "controversial" names in the world of wrestling and somewhere in the responses you will hear the names, Randy Savage an Ultimate Warrior, I dare say you'll hear both names more than once. However, for all the controversy surrounding both guys, and for all the criticism both guys get, on March 24th 1991, these two guys, along with two of the leading females figures in professional wrestling, created one of the most magical moments in the world of professional wrestling, and my personal favourite Wrestlemania moment. Wrestlemania 7 was headlined by Hulk Hogan vs. the Iraqi sympathizer, Sgt. Slaughter, but the night belonged to The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage, as they battled in a "Retirement Match". Macho, along with Sensational Sherri had engaged in a bitter feud with Warrior, stemming from Savage costing Warrior his WWF Championship at the 1991 Royal Rumble, when Savage interfered in the match, attacking Warrior, and ultimately smashing a septor over his head, allowing Slaughter to get the victory. So the match was set, and you knew something special was going to happen, when Warrior came to the ring, not because he came running a million miles an hour, but because he walked to the ring, he WALKED TO THE RING! To me that emphasised the importance of the match, people often criticise Warrior for his lack of in ring psychology, but that night, whether it was his choice or someone elses, he hit the nail on the head. The match itself was amazing, in my eyes easily Warrior’s best match of his career, for me, much better than his match with Hogan a year earlier. I really don’t want to spoil the actual match itself for anyone who has never seen it; I’ll just say that both men delivered on every level possible. The match was great, no arguments, but what over shadowed it, and rightfully so, was the aftermath, which saw Randy Savage go from being one of the most hated figures of the time, to becoming one of the most popular stars on the roster, without even opening his mouth and uttering a word to the fans. Savage’s valet, Sherri brutally attached Savage after the match, leading to Savage’s former wife, Miss. Elizabeth running to the ring from the crowd, and saving Macho from the clutches of the manic Sherri. Then in the most beautifully booked segment in WWE history, Savage and Elizabeth reunited, I think it could easily be described as one of the most emotional booked moments in WWE history, yet alone, Wrestlemania history. Vince McMahon, and his crew, often get criticised for a lot of stuff they produce, and rightfully so, but that night, all parties involved , including the bookers , talent, and even the fans, for embracing the moment, made Wrestlemania magic, and subsequently created my favourite Wrestlemania moment. It easy to be cynical, and its easy not to appreciate wrestling for what it is, for me, it’s about escapism, and becoming involved in larger than life angles, with larger than life characters, and wanting to cheer and boo them, and that was what that moment was about, and for me, it made me care, and its often hard to make wrestling fans care. |

My favorite Wrestlemania moment was when Ric Flair had a standing ovation, after his retirement match against Shawn Michaels. Ric Flair gave it everything he had in the match, and after the match, when he got the standing ovation, you could see that he really enjoyed his in ring career, and that he was sad to see it end. Also, by having been inducted into the Hall of Fame the night before, it made the perfect end to the in ring career of one of the true legends of wrestling. The only way that it would have been even better, was if Ricky Steamboat or Sting were to retire him, but as it stands, it was one of the best Wrestlemania moments of all time. I don't think I've ever seen a better Wrestling send off, and I doubt that Ric Flair's will be topped.
