Brighton and Hove Albion - Terrific Stadium News !

Quote:
Brighton & Hove Albion's lengthy battle to build a new stadium has been given a lift.

The League One club have long held plans to construct a 23,000-seater stadium in the Falmer area of the city as they look to move from their current Withdean Stadium base.

But Lewes District Council have been opposed to the project and the matter was due to go to the High Court earlier this week.

The council's legal challenge has now been dropped, however, putting Brighton in a stronger position with regards to the stadium.

The matter will now be decided by Secretary of State Ruth Kelly with Seagulls chief executive Martin Perry happy with the latest development.

"I'm very pleased that at last this matter has been resolved," Perry told the club's official website.

"Lewes District Council knew they were at risk for costs and it was because of the pressure applied by the club that we now move on."

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott had originally approved Brighton's application 12 months ago, but a clerical error ruined the proposal.
Good news then !

The Withdean is the worst ground i've ever had the displeasure of visiting. 7 hour bus journey to see a awful game of Football and to get piss rapped through.

It would be good if the Secretary Of State give BAHA the green light on this project, as it would certainly give the club and the thriving seaside town as a whole a huge boost.

My only problem with this is, Would they be able to fill this ground for every league game though? I highly doubt it. Then again, it would be great for any FA Cup games against Premiership clubs, and who knows maybe even one day they could reach the Premiership, so its good that the club is planning for the future.

Yes clubs hae to plan ahead, Cardiff have been stuck in a similar position for years.

But if they go and win promotion this season, we'll be looking at terracing back in the Premiership again.

As a Brightonian I really want to see the local club do well in league one but it's the financial problems which have always held them back and a good example of that is the decision to promote Dean Wilkins to manager, they can't afford to bring a new boss in.

My first ever Burnley match wa a 3-1 defeat against Brighton. Mike Conroy scored for Burnley, thats about all i can remember.

The 2nd time i saw them was a couple of years back when they beat us 2-0, i remember this game because it featured the best headbutt i've ever seen in a football game.

The last time i saw a Brighton game was a couple of years back at the Withdean, like i stated above it pissed it down all day at the away end was totally open. Add to the fact that Brighton is on the coast at it was the week between Christmas and New Year, you get the idea.

Anyways things are going fine and Burnley seem to be cruising to a rare away win. When Steven Sidwell whose on loan from Arsenal (now at Reading) decides to grab a late brace and make it 2-2.

Worst Football trip ever

EDIT

Talking of new football grounds, who wants to play in a ground like this???

They had a brief segment of Brighton FC's plans for a new ground ahead of the Brighton Vs Blackpool game today on Sky Sports 1. Their Withdean Stadium ground is absolutely attrocious, I cant believe that the club has to play in conditions like that, the facilities are something you would expect to see half a century ago. The club really does need that new stadium asap.

I'm glad that Lewes Council dropped any plans they had to contest the new stadium, and I hope that the Secretary Of State eventually agrees in favour of the development.
