Kind of glad for Jerome as Virgin/marussia shafted him royally at the end of the season.Lotus have named Jerome D'Ambrosio as their test and reserve driver for the 2012 season.
The Belgian was left without a drive after he was axed by Virgin Racing at the end of 2011. While the Dinnington squad deciding against keeping him, D'Ambrosio did finish the season ahead of his team-mate, Timo Glock who was retained. With this season's grid all but full, D'Ambrosio has been forced into a back-up role, waiting in the wings behind Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
"It's a great feeling to be joining Lotus. It's an exciting next step in my career," said the 26-year-old.
"Now I have the opportunity to work with one of the top teams with great potential for my future development."
Team principal Eric Boullier admits that D'Ambrosio caught the eye during his stint with Virgin.
"In Jerome we have someone we know well who integrates beneficially with the squad," said the Frenchman.
"He impressed as reserve driver for us in 2010, and ... also showed strongly in his rookie season as an F1 race driver."
D'Ambrosio is represented by Gravity Sport Management who are owned by Genii Capital who also own Lotus.
