    What do you really miss?

As a general rule we're all pretty downcast about wrestling these days. We're all longing for the "good ol' days", which in my case is 2004. But what is it that you miss about when things were "better"? I dont mean just general complaining, "when things used to mean something", specific things that they used to do and they dont do anymore.

I thought of this after talking in the Sheamus thread about Cena and Batista being made at WM21. I miss when winning the world title meant you were the best guy on the show. Even though there were two titles, it still felt OK because the brands were so much more separate and they were treated like a world title. Cena and Batista winning them at Mania made them into the next big stars. Benoit seemed like the best guy on Raw. HHH seemed like the best guy on Raw whenever he had it. When Cena had that 12 month reign he was clearly the biggest guy in the company. And so on. Now, a midcarder who isnt over at all has the WWE Title. He doesnt even seem like he's in the Top 5 guys on Raw. Why is he the world champion?

I also miss when actually winning a world title was a special occasion. When Cena and Batista won their respective titles at Mania, it was a huge 'torch passing' deal and they became the new top guys. When Benoit won the WHC it was the greatest moment in the history of our great sport (at the time). Even when midcarder Orton won it from him, it was played up like a huge, huge deal. Ditto Eddie beating Brock. Edge cashing in on Cena the first time was mind blowing. Now they pass the world titles around every 3 weeks, and it doesnt mean an absolute thing. Nobody cares anymore when they win the title, and why should they? Its probably their fourth reign this year. The ONLY one who does care is Jeff Hardy, and he's gone. I mean, Edge has won the world title NINE TIMES. Edge.

I'm actually being more general than I intended to be, but you get the point. What did they do much better when you really loved wrestling?

    I miss;

    - Charisma
    - Gimmicks
    - Angles that evolved at all
    - A tag team division that want just made of random pairings
    - DX being cool
    - Crowds giving a sh*t
    - Booking that was unexpected, but in a good way (yes, there's a difference, TNA)
    - Mid-card titles
    - Heel commentators

You know what? I just miss wrestling I cared about.

I miss a couple of things most of all. I miss the fact that PPV's used to be a really big deal and not something that the WWE throws together once or twice a month. It used to be that the matches that where held during a PPV actually meant something and when a title changed hands you remembered it for months if not years. Nowadays with the amount of PPV's we have, they mean nothing except for Summerslam, Rumble and Mania. And even some of those in recent years have been a disappointment.

The other thing I miss is the characters that were so individual. The Randy Savage's, the Rowdy Roddy Pipers and the Hulk Hogan's. The WWE has turned into a cookie cutter machine spewing out wrestlers that except for the faces and names are carbon copies of each other.

Has wrestling gone downhill. Yes. With all the talent available it's a crying shame. Unfortunately for the fans money seems to the the bottom line in the WWE and as fans we come last to the almighty dollar.
I'm a bit of a b*llshitter myself but occasionally enjoy listening to an expert. Please carry on.

"Treat everyone the same until you find out they're an idiot."

A rose by any other name, is just a pr*ck in a bush.

Actually I miss Divas being properly over as characters. Trish was way over. Lita was way over. Early Mickie got over. I mean, I think of Trish coming out to the ring to cut promos in 2005, and I think like, how on earth could that happen now? They dont let any women talk enough to warrant it, and they dont get any of them over enough that the crowd would care.

I miss back when the cruiserweight division was exclusive to Smackdown and the womens division was exclusive to Raw. It made the shows stand out from each other. Actually I generally miss when Raw and Smackdown seemed like equal but different brands.

    This is what I meant by "gimmicks". It's like, today, there's three characters in the whole of the WWE;

    - Cool face
    - Cocky heel
    - Violent heel

That's it. Everyone is one of those three apart from, off the top of my head, The Undertaker and CM Punk. Winds me right up. It was like, back in the day, everyone had a character, a back story, a kayfabe motive to behave the way they do, but, these days, it's just so two dimensional. Everything's the same, there's no individuality, there's nothing special about anyone anymore.

    God I hate wrestling.

The Brian Kendrick on Smackdown being treated like a real wrestler.
Swagger being treated like a real wrestler.
    Wrestler being treated like wrestlers.
Keep in mind that what I've said is merely my opinion, but keep in mind that I'm always right.
You'll be happy to know that 61 percent of the WWE Universe voters think the WWE Draft is better than the NFL, NBA, another major sports drafts. In related news, 61 percent of the WWE Universe voters are morons.

There is so much stuff I miss but these days if you complain, people act like "Oh, you need to step out of the past!" which is, of course, bullshit.

I miss having having very few titles than all mean something and are the focal points of the show.

I miss proper tag team wrestling with proper tag teams. Guys who are brought in together as a team and their entire run is as a team. Not singles guys thrown together and a bunch of teams who ALL get a turn with the belts.

I miss slow angles and feuds that last months and months with only 1 or 2 matches.

    I miss having fewer PPV's.

I miss Survivor Series being Survivor Series with 5 vs 5 or 4 vs 4 matches and not just the same old shit they do on every other PPV.

    I miss gimmicks.

I miss Jesse Ventura on commentary.

I miss the days where wrestlers called matches on the fly in the ring.

I miss guys being given bullet points in promos and allowed to do their own thing, not all that over scripted rubbish.

I miss having just one 'brand'.

I miss oldschool WWF SNME that we all looked forward to back in the day and thought was such a massively big deal.

I could go on and on, I mean to be honest, WWE specifically has become something 100% completely different than it was when I was a kid and it has become something completely different than what made me a fan in the first place. I dislike WWE so much, I hate the way they have their stupid little f*cking bent names for everything like Sports Entertainment, WWE Superstars, WWE Universe and all that crap.

Eh, I hate to come across so bitter and negative or whatever because really thats not the way I am, but when it comes to wrestling and WWE specifically, I hate it. Its junk.
