Book Description
Outrageous costumes, cartoonish characters, and scripted storylines are featured in this retrospective look at the no-holds-barred stunts pro wrestling promoters have used to attract viewers. Covering such entertainment catastrophes as an evil one-eyed midget, George Ringo the Wrestling Beatle, and Goobledy Gooker, the wrestler who emerged in the arena from an egg, this merciless evaluation of such organizations as World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation will leave wrestling fans and critics alike in stitches. The choices of promoters and producers are reviewed in an effort to understand the motivations and imaginations behind the often incomprehensible and laughable stunts that have baffled even die-hard fans.

I think his wit is what makes it a tad special than usual. Any date for the WCW book?

Not that im aware of at this moment in time. But if I hear anything at all, i'll keep you posted. The good thing about RD is that he is pretty honest on his site, so if a date is set, im sure it'll be on there, before or around the time I get any news from the 'great vine'.

I have just finished reading this book, and i must say it was one of the most interesting books i have seen in a while. The authors highlight some of the poorest moments in both WWF/E and WCW with such humour and distaste that you have to think twice as to whether you actually saw it happen. For me the book was a trip down memory lane, reliving those "glory days" of watching WCW and WWF with such gimmicks as the Demon, IRS, Isaac Yankem etc etc. The thing i noticed is that whilst i was watching these in action back then, i enjoyed some if not all of it. Maybe it was because i was a gullable little mark who thought wrestling was real, but now i know different. These gimmicks, whilst funny at the time to some marks, were actually very poor and were the main reason behind big drops in business.

In closing i think this is one of the best wrestling books available at present and it is a must for any fan. Go buy it now if you havent already!

It makes for an interesting read but I would have liked to have seen a little more insight into the gimmicks and angles, Rather than going off on a typical R.D rant on how WCW died.

It's a good book yes, But he strays away from the point of the book far too often for my liking.

Isn't it funny how angles can fail - look at Papa Shango, universally ridiculed and now on Smackdown we have ... The Boogyman (or Shango II) as I call him. The difference is, Boogyman is getting over! Mind you Shango was nowhere near as funny.
