Here's an MMA related topic!

I just wanted to ask you, which is better in MMA, the ring or the cage in your opinion?

I personally enjoy both!

Both environments tend to favour certain fighters though!

I think that the cage tends to favour wrestlers as most wrestlers in MMA are good at takedowns so when they get their opponent on the mat, they normally just get him up as near to the fence as possible to trap him and just beat him down!

Guys like Matt Hughes and Tito Ortiz are very effective at this!

Anyway, I just was interested in what your thoughts were on the subject!

By the way, I just wanted to remind any of you that reply to this thread, please don't mention any PRIDE spoilers here as some people are still waiting to get their hands on a copy of the event! Also try not to mention anything that would indicate any of the results from the latest PRIDE!

Cheers,

Joe Reilly

I would go for the ring - I just like it when the fighters get in a grapple and just loses their footing and bounces off the ropes - I can remember one event happening in about 1998 or 1999 when two fighters was locked in a grapple and one (With red shorts) pushed all the way to the ropes and they both almost flipped over the ropes!

Then the referees came out and tried to separate each other as the chap in the red/white shorts wouldn't let go. - exciting stuff!

With the cage - it looks mighty impressive - but I prefer the ring as it looks bigger - meaning more opportunity to withdraw and plan strategy.

Fair point!

But as Phil Baroni would say "when the guys fall out of the ring it looks sloppy"

I'd have to agree with Phil on that point, but overall I like both, as they both make for contrasting fights!

Cheers,

Good old Phil Baroni! :)

Another moment I remember - again from a few years ago - I watched it on the PRIDE highlights DVD you get when you buy PRIDE FC for PS2.

There, I remember watching a fight and one man was so brutal and didn't hold back and the victim went through the ropes and crashed down to the time keepers table - when he came around - he had an almighty bump on his head!

It has just to be seen to believe it! - it was HUGE!
