Hey Everyone!
I'm a huge fan of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) i.e. UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and PRIDE (PRIDE Fighting Championships)!
I'd just like to know is there anyone else on these forums that are fans of the sport!
Cheers,

What days/channels are the UFC on TV?
I'm from the UK here...

Hey man!
Unfortunately, there's no UFC broadcasted in the UK at the moment! Zuffa (Owners of the UFC) are currently negotiating to get UFC shown in Ireland and the UK at the moment, but we have to wait and see how those negotiations pan out! I personally order the latest UFC events off certain tape traders off of the internet!
Hopefully UFC get a PPV deal to broadcast their PPV's over here, but we shall find out soon enough!
I will update the board on any news as I get it!
Cheers,
Joe Reilly

Hi,
i'm a fan of UFC and Pride. Sakuraba, Kevin Randleman, Quinton Jackson, Cro Cop and Nogueira are all awesome fighters. The Middleweight tournament this weekend looks unbelieve, at least on paper.

for me- UFC can be great t times, and just really boring at times. Overall though it's not to my liking.
does anybody remember a program called Bushido that use to be on Bravo. i Liked that alot and thought it was a shame it was gotten rid off

Sky Sports did used to show UFC on Thursday Nights but that stopped a while ago if my memory serves me correct.

Sky showed some old UFC tapes in order to hype the UFC event at the Royal Albert Hall in July 2002. If you don't like UFC, I can say you'll probably like Pirde and get into it easier. Pride appeals more to pro wrestling fans than UFC.
Seabass, UFC is like boxing, sometimes a fight is great, other times a fight is all about tactics and waiting and being patient. Pride fighters are encouraged to go out there and essentially be pro wrestling characters. That's why Bob Sapp is a huge celebrity over in Japan; he sucks and never wins a fight, but his antics and persona redeem him, tenfold.
Also, Pride is opertared and owned by NJPW founder/owner Antonio Inoki, hence the big similarities with pro wrestling.

Read Joe Reilly's reponse! - the answer is there clearly - as well Colin and Singhy/Riki too as well.
As for UFC and Pride - I quite like both of them, the great thing about both are (obviously) the violent nature of fights as well there're the prospect of two men beating each other brutually.
I'm just amazed with Pride really - I watched the highlights DVD which came with the PlayStation 2 game - and I spotted at least 2 wrestlers trying their hands and get smashed speculartly!
With UFC - the referee is a hoot - his expressions and his body language in matches rule!

Both UFC and Pride are great shows!
I have some comments about UFc and Pride in general here and some responses to previous posts!
Rikidozan said "Seabass, UFC is like boxing"
Don't mean to sound argumentative here, but I'd have to disagree with that! I would agree that in principle you could be right, as sometimes guys will go for a quick finish, while other times it would be a hardfought battle!
I like some of the quick fights if they're ended by a devastating KO or a really skilllful submission, but I personally love the strategic fights! Those fights really help you see how good the fighters are! I think the problem with most newcomers (fans) to the sport, is that they mostly wanna see the guys punch each other's lights out, but when the see the technical grappling wars on the ground, they lose interest!
I agree that it takes time to get into, but don't give up on it, when you watch it, you should study it and pick up on what the fighter is doing and what the commentators are saying about it! When it comes to the ground fighting, try to pick up on all the important elements such as passing the guard i.e. when a fighter is stuck in between his opponent's legs, he has to get past his legs to pass his guard etc, while the guy on the bottom has to try and keep his guard up and go for submissions or reversals etc.
I only disagree with the boxing point because when you watch more and more MMA, you begin to see how limited boxing is in comparison, don't get me wrong it's a great sport in it's own right, but MMA has so much more involved! You can punch, kick, knee, elbow, wrestle, grapple, go for submissions etc. With a combat sport that has so much involved in it, it really shows up boxing in my opinion!
Rikidozan also said "That's why Bob Sapp is a huge celebrity over in Japan; he sucks and never wins a fight, but his antics and persona redeem him, tenfold"
Bob Sapp has only lost one fight in MMA/Pride and that was against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who is one of the best Heavyweights in the world, if not the best Heavyweight! Yes the Japanese love the man, but other than that, I don't see your point!
Rikidozan also said "If you don't like UFC, I can say you'll probably like Pirde and get into it easier. Pride appeals more to pro wrestling fans than UFC."
While it is true Pride has had several Japanese pro wrestlers fight in Pride, the number of Japanese pro wrestlers that now compete in Pride has greatly been reduced. The reason for this is because Pride have been accused of working certain fights that included Japanese pro wrestlers in the past, and many of the accused fights were exposed as works!
Most MMA journalists and fans today believe Pride would be to afraid to stage worked fights because it is trying conquer the US and the rest of the mainstream media as a legitimate sport!
Also I can't wait to see there middleweight tournament! It should be great! Did you hear that Pride have added three Heavyweight Fights to the card?
Fedor Emilianenko vs. Gary Goodridge
Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic
Ricco 'Suave' Rodriguez vs. Antonio Rodrigo 'Minotauro' Nogueira

Yes. Colin + Riki's answers were after mine and that explained it. As for Joe's answer, that didn't tell me if it was on before and on what channel. But thanks anyway... I know now thanks to Colin + Riki...
