View Full Version : EWR
Most people who are interested will know that EWR is released tommorow at 10am.
The game can be downloaded from
http://www.tanc-online.co.uk/ew .
I was reading the guide thingy, and I came across my first problem, installing the game. I don't know how to creat a new directory as the instructions tell you, can anyone help me?

If you've created a new folder, then a directory is ust the same thing.
When you open Windows Explorer, and look at your files, you will notice you C: drive and all the folders underneath...click on the C: and go up to File and select New...Folder and name the folder EWR. After you've done that, click once on the EWR folder and select New...Folder again and name it DAT....then again and name that one GRX.
This will give you:
C:/
EWR
DAT
GRX
All you need to then do is unzip the .dat files into DAT, the graphic files into GRX and everything else into EWR.

Also...if you go onto the EWR Message Board, a guy has created a batch file that'll make up the sub-directories for you and move all the files to the right places, once unzipped...you'd still need to make up the EWR one though.

I was also wondering about that so cheers for clearing that up. The game sounds VERY good.
I'll be reviewing it for TWO...But not right away, I'll have to play the game all weekend....er...For journilistic purposes of course.

So, I could feasibly have a diary up before your review is finished? hmmmmm hehe
Why don't you stick to helping RXPW with the updates, and I'll stick to the reviewing? ;)

I was MLW from 12 till 9:45 pm, made a few financial errors but i'm back on track now...my TV ratings are around the 1.4 mark somewhere and I've just signed Paul Heyman. :) Oh...CZW went bankrupt.
Obviously I edited what needed edited.

This may come as a surprise, but I actually can't be bothered with the booking system. Don't get me wrong, its excellent, but when your someone with 3 shows it week, it can piss you off doing it again and again.

Ok, I went to that link and couldn't find the download at all, can someone give me the proper link?
If you go to http://www.tanc-online.co.uk/ew/ the if you click on the link which says minor downloads you download iitfrom there.]
I am using the nwa-tna, and I have got a contarct for 2 tv shows, on fox and tnn, my lowest rating recorded was 3.33 and my highest 3.39, At the moment the only think I'm concerned about is my public image which is 27%.

i think i chose the easy option going with wwe. My raw rating lowest was 5.85 and smackdown lowest was 5.25 i think, i might start again later with a different fed to see if its any harder

Started my WWE last night, played for an hour and ran my first week:
I fired some dev talent, plus The Godfather, Mark Henry and The Bossman...fired a few annuncers like Coachman, Okerlund and Lloyd. Brought in Don Callis as an announcer and one John Finnegan, the old ECW Referee.
Decided not to use the injured guys like Kane, Kanyon, Rhyno, Awesome and co
RAW:
Made Benoit's switch permanent and had an 85% segment with a confront with Flair. Also brought in Vader (to work alongside Brock and Heyman), Shane Douglas, Scott Steiner (nWo), Goldberg, Masato Tanaka and Randy Savage.
Main event was Booker T/Goldberg vs Nash/X-Pac with Steiner and Big Show attacking Booker and Goldberg...this ended with Booker complaining about them working too stiff.
Rating: 6.08
Smackdown:
Brought Mike Sanders and Rey Misterio Jnr in from Development and signed up Curt Hennig and Taka Michinoku....probably more potential on this roster. Don Callis and, I think, Jim Cornette on the mic.
Main event was Hogan/HHH vs Taker/Angle...don't really remember much else about my card, but need to definitely create a tag team or two. Perhaps The Thrillseekers will return. Keibler and Dawn Marie all refused a bra and panties match...so erm, oh I had one of them stripped in the backstage area.
Rating: 5.21
On a sidenote: Rico caused a fight backstage and is suspended for a month.
Heat:
This is my blowoff show, as I split 4 matches for RAW and 4 for the SD roster...no angles or interviews. I got a 2.76, with the Taka vs Funaki feud starting, my big plans for Hugh Morrus beginning to take shape and Tazz actually putting his gear on for once. Announcing was done by Cole, I think, with Shane Douglas...slightly silly, as Shane wrestled Bubba to continue the challenge run on RAW.
Yet to decide how to use Austin, Steph and The Rock...probably to put other people over and build the quality of the roster up.
I've also been playing the game every minute I've been near my PC. Just got a 6.21 rating for Raw, with Benoit and Eddie Vs Austin and Edge (WWE Champion) as my main event. Jindrak and O'Haire are feuding with Chuck and Billy, D-Lo is feuding with Mike Awesome over the Raw belt while Rhyno and Kanyon are fighting over the SD! belt (I got rid of the Euro and IC belts and made them into Raw and Smackdown! belts).
The game's far from perfect though, but I'll save most of my material for the upcoming review.

Man, I love this game.
I remember having that crappy TNM game ages ago, and this is so much better than it. Sure its flawed in some areas (would have been nice to be able to edit/add match types) but its got enough to keep me going for now.
Ooooh cant wait now, must go, WWE Vengeance to book..Surprisingly, I havent fired HHH yet either...yet :P

After playing this, I just hope that (when it's finally finished) Promotion Wars 2 will be better.
Summer 2001 release my arse !

Another point is that when you take over the WWE, you really see how bad some of the problems they have are...eg. the tag team division.
I've solved this by creating a couple, Josh Matthews and Chris Harvard as the heel tag team "Tough Enough" and Bull Buchanan and the Godfather in the heel tag team "Creative Development"...even then its having to face problems like that that make the game feel more real :D
Quite addictive this game is. :D

The teams I created where Randy Orton and Sean O'Haire, Christian and Lance Storm called the New Impact Players, Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore as heels, Raven and Stevie Richards and I also put Benoit, Eddie, Brock (with Heyman managing them all) as a stable on the Raw side.

If you're expecting Promotion Wars 2, or any other sim in the near future to be better then I'd forget about it right away.
Thing is the first Promotion Wars wasn't very good anyway, not a bad first attempt for a programmer, but not even as good as Extreme Warfare Deluxe. As for PW2, will it ever get released? And when it does is there any real chance of it being better than EWR? Probably not.
The one to wait for is Head to Head. It looks awesome, and whilst it's true it's taking a while to get released the fact that a lot of time is getting taken over it is no bad thing, as I'm sure those who've played EWR will testify to.
For now EWR is without doubt, whatever anybody says, the best promoter sim on the market. You can't ask for any more than that, and especially seeing as it is free. It has its faults, and maybe hasn't lived up to the expectations of many but in reality how many good wrestling sims are there?
Maybe 4 at most. Extreme Warfare 9000 at a push, Extreme Warfare Deluxe, Extreme Warfare Revenge, and if you're really desperate Promotion Wars.

Is H2H free?
EWR training camps: Like in PW, do you actually get TC guys, or can only send people there?
The Crippler

H2H is free. I think it looks awesome. Hopefully they don't rush it just for the sake of it. I like EWR. Although its not as good as I thought it would be I still think it is very good.

Is there a release date or predicted release date for H2H? What is the web site? Also, any answer for my EWR training camp question?
Cheers :xyx

No idea on your training camp question.
I'd say Head to Head might be out some time in the autumn. Thats only my guess, I may be totally wrong.
http://www.headtoheadwrestling.com is the official site
http://www.pwse.co.uk is also good for info on H2H
Hope that helps. :xyx

Far too much like Scotsman's review Rusty. :)
EWR is OK, the upkeep of MLW is keeping me occupied, the one thing that annoys me most is that you can only have the 1 run in per match, when sometimes you need the heel run in then the face run in to make the save to keep a feud on it's toes.

EWR is very good, but it hasn't hooked me that much. I tend to go through a week (using WWE) in one sitting then get bored. I get on average a 6.10 for RAW. I'm building up to Summerslam right now. HHH is out for 10 months! Also I find fueds annoying, I've never done one fued that someone in the back didn't complain about.
EWR is grear, however I haven't been on it as much as I thought. On the first day I was one in non-stop, lately it I have just been going on it for about 1 or 2 hours a day. I think its because booking the matches takes along time, and is a bit tedious. Anyways the game is still the best, I just wonder how good Prom Wars 2 will be.

I never really got into playing WWE but I found myself on it for hours when using the other smaller promotions like WWA.

I am a massive EWR fan (as many chatroom users may have seen in the days surrounding its release, apologies for the annoying countdown!)
Its attention to detail is outstanding, but maybe, just maybe, a bit TOO good. The booking system works well, but can be tiresome, and quite repetitive. This is the only reason I don't like EWR completely.
In case anyone was wondering, my main game is WWE, with several other backyard feds as well. My main objectives were to get above 6.1 on every Raw (so far only 2 below) and above 5.25 for SD, which I'm failing at the moment. Naturally, I used the editor for signing La Parka, and a BIT more money.....
But with a PPV buy-rate average of 1.99, who needs to cheat!!!
Hope everyone enjoys the game as much as me!
