The Weekly News Roundup – Miss.T

INTRODUCTION

Hey.

Welcome the US News Roundup! I'm taking over from Fletch as he's got too many other commitments at the moment and doesnt have enough time to put together all the US News which (as I've just found out) is VERY time consuming! However, he will still be writing his TNA column which is also currently on hiatus. I hope I can match up to his standards :xyx

Ive decided to try a new format with the US News because when I looked at the Newsletter Feedback a couple of people mentioned that it was their least favourite part. Some said it was because it was too long or they'd already read all the news throughout the week. Therefore I decided to break it up into the main stories then all the bits & bobs at the end so that you can skip the sections that you've already read or if you wanted to look at one in more detail then you can.

It may or not be the best way of doing it but I'm gonna give it a try and see how it goes. Feedback would be great guys, my email addy is at the end. Hope you enjoy! :thumbsup

Lita/Edge/Hardy Love Triangle!

Despite word coming out this weekend that Matt Hardy was set to be at Monday's RAW, he was reportedly asked by management to avoid attending the show. Matt was in driving distance and wanted to visit friends backstage, but was kindly asked not to show up and did adhere to the request.

This move was by no means an indication of WWE siding with Edge and Lita over Hardy. But, unlike Hardy, they were booked for the show and needed to be present. WWE saw no upside to aggravating the situation by placing Hardy in the same locker-room as those two workers, so made the decision to ask Hardy to refrain from attending.
With Hardy not at the show, management held meetings with Edge and Lita to discuss recent events and how the situation could be defused given that WrestleMania is around the corner.

As expected, the Hardy-Lita-Edge love triangle was the hot topic of discussion backstage at RAW last night. Although talk on the situation had been quiet at weekend house shows, it was open season yesterday with talent from SmackDown! on their cell phones to the RAW guys to try and get updates.

As for backstage reaction - neither Edge or Lita were shunned by their peers, however there was some awkwardness that accompanied both wherever they went backstage, which was to be expected. As for Matt Hardy, many in the locker room feel sympathetic toward him as he is a popular figure and thought of as a kind boyfriend.

On the subject of Edge's affair with Lita, at last night's house show, a front row fan held up a sign that said, "Edge betrayed V1."

According to PWTorch.com, the original plan was for both Edge and Matt Hardy to take part in Chris Jericho's Ladder Match at WrestleMania. However, with the recent personal issue developing between Hardy and Edge, sources say such a plan is now 'off the table,' as putting Edge and Hardy in the ring almost ensures one of them will leave the ring injured.

ECW “One Night Stand” PPV & Shane Douglas’ ECW Reunion News

Despite original reports, it seems the 'war' over the ECW PPV is not as intense as once believed. Although WWE would obviously prefer the former ECW stars to work its show and not Shane Douglas' reunion, there is reportedly no internal expectation that the names contacted will only work WWE's show. WWE's focus is solely on the authenticity of the show and not on having a dominant grasp of the ECW reunion market, so they fully understand the former stars are not under WWE contract and might want to work both events. It seems highly unlikely that the previously reported offers to Sandman and Justin Credible, among others, were meant to be 'WWE exclusive' offers, although if they were, that will no longer be the case. In short, there is not really a war going on over the ECW reunion. WWE just wants to capture the essence of ECW with its 6/12 PPV.

Internal sources in WWE are suggesting that Paul Heyman may be brought back as a consultant for the ECW PPV. It's reported that Heyman was in Stamford, CT last week discussing matters with WWE officials. Heyman has pitched ideas for the event and may end up working alongside Tommy Dreamer.

On his website, Tracy Smothers confirmed appearances for both upcoming ECW reunion shows, including WWE's 'One Night Stand' PPV.

According to the Wrestling-Observer Newsletter, New Jack is expected to work the ECW 'One Night Stand' PPV. No deal has yet been reached, but sources expect something to materialize. Bill Alfonso has also been contacted to work the show. Alfonso managed Rob Van Dam, Tazz and Sabu at different times after a run as a heel referee.

In addition to the independent names, WWE has also reached out to various former ECW stars that are currently under TNA contract. It is highly unlikely TNA will allow its performers to work the show, but the very fact WWE has contacted names like Raven and Jerry Lynn indicates how seriously WWE is taking the effort.

WWE & Spike TV End Contract!

Spike TV has officially announced via a press release that negotiations between Viacom and WWE have ceased in regards to renewing a new contract.

It is widely believed that Raw and all the weekend programs will now be returning to the USA Network starting in September as TNT, TBS and FX have shown no interest in the WWE.

"After several months of negotiations, we have decided to end our discussions about extending our relationship with WWE beyond September 2005," wrote Spike TV in a press release. "Moving forward, Spike TV will expand its investments in original programming and new acquisitions for its core audience."

So once again, WWE is officially leaving Spike TV and more than likely returning to the USA Network, their previous home for over 15 years.

Bits & Bobs

'Be Cool,' the sequel to 'Get Shorty,' exceeded estimates from various sources with $23.5 million for the weekend. The movie's performance is not bad when taking into its downright horrible reviews from nearly every critic in the country. This would be the third-highest opening for a film featuring The Rock, behind The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King.

RAW Diva Trish Stratus is featured in a New York Post online article. The Women's Champion discusses her black eye, wrestling and also takes up a challenge to piece together a $100 outfit while shopping for clothes in New York City. Click here to read that.

Chris Jericho's band "Fozzy" will join Motorhead, Corrosion Of Conformity and Zeke on a bill scheduled to be in Las Vegas. Fozzy will also open for Motorhead at gigs taking place on WrestleMania 21 weekend.

A motion has been filed by World Wrestling Entertainment on 3/3, asking for an extension until 4/1 before they legally have to answer the lawsuit Brock Lesnar brought against them in February.
Both WWE and Lesnar have a deadline of 5/4 before they can file motions to dismiss the lawsuit.

Stephanie McMahon was said to be very "hands on" with production last week, ordering retakes of the Orton-Graham segment and something involving Eric Bischoff, which did not even air in the end. There are a number of people interested in seeing how she will approach tonights taping.

Paul Heyman is scheduled to be in Ohio Valley Wrestling this week, where he will help wrestlers develop their mic skills. It's ironic that Heyman will be in OVW at the same time as Jim Cornette, given their historical animosity toward each other.

Christy Hemme was on hand at the Virgin Megastore this afternoon in New York City to sign copies of her Playboy and attracted around 250 fans.

There is an online article in the Sun's UK newspaper with WWE road stories from Molly Holly sleeping at a seedy hotel to Victoria sharing a bed with fellow divas. Read that at theSun.co.uk.

PWInsider is reporting that backstage sources have confirmed WWE's plans to bring in Super Crazy for the Cruiserweight division, once visa issues are cleared up. A timetable is not yet known.

Two new faces have been added to the WWE writing time in recent weeks, one of who is a female, the first since Stephanie McMahon was added. A new assistant has also been added to the team.

I’m really sorry that there is no TNA news this week but I’ve been very busy and left it too late! Not good for my first newsletter eh...

Ok that’s the US News for this week, thanks to Fletch for passing the torch and I know he did a really good job but this is my first time at attempting anything like this so please send me some feedback on how I can improve/adjust this!

Please use the email link in my profile (http://www.talkwrestlingonline.com/forum/member.php?u=135)!

Thanks,

Miss.T :D

WWE Statistics
March 6th - 13th
- By Chris2K
---------------------------------------------------------------

If you know me, I sympathise, but you'll also know that I'm a big fan of statistics. For the last few months I've been doing something similar to this just as a hobby-type thing, going from 1999 onwards, and now I've decided to bring it to the newsletter. Allow me to explain...

This project is basically a league table. It relies on the results of matches shown on WWE TV, be it RAW, SmackDown, Velocity or Heat. For the purposes of this project, I have separated the points into shows, rather than having one big table.

But why do it? Well it doesn't take that long at all, and it allows you to see who's been winning the most this year, and who's been the year's biggest jobber. It's just a bit of fun really :).

To score points all you need to do is win a match, or be involved in a DQ. You get five points for winning, three for a DQ, Double Count-out or draw, no points for a no contest, and you lose a point for a defeat.

The Main Event
- By Stephen Ashfield

FLAIR FOR CHANGE?

It’s happening far too often isn’t it? Triple H plays the cowardly heel, which when you think about it is a bit strange considering he’s the “greatest wrestler alive” and lets others take a beating on his behalf. Randy Orton soon got fed up of his behaviour, so has Batista, all that’s left of Evolution now is Triple H and Ric Flair, but could Flair be about to leave Triple H all by himself and without a title?

It’ s just one of the ideas that is running through my head at the moment as I start to think about this year’s Wrestlemania. The card is looking pretty good so far and there are plenty of questions that need to be answered on the big day. But you see I’m an impatient little so and so, therefore I’ve decided to have a bash at working out what the questions are and thinking of a few answers.

I’ll start with that title match on Raw. I’m not entirely certain Batista will win the belt at Wrestlemania but I figure it’s more than likely that he will. But how will he do it? A clean pin, well that would certainly establish Batista as a superstar but would Triple H allow that? How about if Flair finally got fed up and turned on Triple H? That could help Batista if he joined up with his former Evolution partner. We all know the big guy isn’t that fantastic on the mic and it’d be good to see Flair help him. It must hurt Flair having to praise Triple H so much and just one bad move by the champ could see him having a very lonely existence on Raw.

Next up is that six man ladder match which intrigues me a great deal. Predicting the winner isn’t going to be easy. If you reckon that Batista is going to be champ then perhaps a heel is guaranteed victory here, which leaves us with Edge or Christian. I can’t work out why this isn’t for Shelton Benjamin’s IC Title as well, why have the belt if it’s not going to be defended at the biggest show of the year?

The winner of the ladder match is guaranteed a title shot anytime in the next year and that includes Wrestlemania 22 in Chicago. Now anyone with any sense would win this ladder match and get that main event match at Wrestlemana next year but is that likely? Does Vince plan that far ahead, what if the winner gets injured and would you really wait a year for a title shot?

The whole Trish v Christy situation might as well just have a Playboy ad painted on Christy rather than the word slut. Of course the most irritating thing here is that most people would much rather it was Trish stripping off than Christy. The Lita twist is interesting, with her training Christy we can expect her to become injury-prone, miss several spots and injure her opponents as well. Will WWE really put the belt on Christy at Wrestlemania just to boost their relationship with Hefner? More than likely unfortunately. I just wonder what Victoria and Molly think.

Hassan has yet to be given an opponent at Wrestlemania. Talk is it could be Mr Hogan if his body is up for it and that’s not a certainty for sure. Foley seems to be out of the picture at present and so does The Rock. A lot depends on what the plans are for Hassan. Is he going to get a big push towards a possible title shot against Batista? He’s not bad in the ring, it’s just the angle that sucks (more on him later). I fear the push will continue.

So Randy Orton is back as the legend killer but is he a face or a heel? Who can tell? One minute he’s challenging Undi to have the bottle to do a job at Wrestlemania, and that’s not a nice thing to do. Next minute we’re back to pleasant Mr Orton as he’s the latest guy to join Vince’s ‘I’ll teach him a lesson for running WCW’ club as he puts the RKO on Bischoff. Orton v Undi should be very interesting and of course allows more interaction between Raw and Smackdown. Will Undi job at Wrestlemania? Not sure, depends on if they want to turn Orton heel again (perhaps to ally with Triple H v Batista and Flair?). It’d be sad to see Undertaker’s record go though.

Other questions on Raw are few and far between. Will there be a tag title match on the main card or bunged onto heat? Will Snitsky get a match or has his push evaporated after those losses to Benjamin?

There’s plenty more questions to be answered and I’ll look at the Smackdown matches and Angle v Michaels in the next Main Event.

Who is TWO Member of the Week?

This week's TWO Member of the week is Inno. A strange choice maybe, but his recent input into the General Chat forums of the board show us why he is so "highly valued".

Who is TWO Heel of the Week?

Heel of the Week goes to Tajiri San for constantly begging to replace Crippler as a senior mod :P.

Hope you've enjoyed this week's newsletter, and according to my schedule, Darkstar should be back next week. So enjoy this one while it lasts!

Slightly harsh decision with the heel of the week, but I suppose when you are on the outside of a circle that is the way it goes.

Hope everyone enjoyed it this week :D

Christof, it was obvously in jest. Would of been nice if you would have given some positive feedback*.

EDIT: What happened to Forum Focus? I used to love that!

* I meant to put Constructive not positive!

I enjoyed parts of the newsletter, Chris 2K's statistics section was again to the highest standard.

In life you will find that not all feedback is positive, if we all had the same thoughts this world would be a boring place and no progress would be made. So yes I enjoyed parts but it is human nature to also find faults in things.

I'm sure Tajiri_san will reval in the fact that he is Heel of the week as it's not always a bad thing.

Some good stuff from Miss T as i'm guessing she had a short time with a tight deadline.

I'm guessing forum focus aint about as Darkstar is very tight for time at the moment.

But the big question that still has yet to be answered is who is Stephen Ashfield???

Inner circle?

The Heel of the Week is 90% of the time given in jest, as is the case this week. Tajiri San's probably mentioned being a mod about twice, so constantly begging is extreme reaction.

Forums in Focus is Darkstar's forté, so whilst he's been away it's not been around.

Glad you like the stats though Chris, at least I'm doing it for another purpose than just my entertainment :P.

I really think that the newsletter is coming into it's stride now, that was a really professional and entertaining read. I'm very much impressed. Miss T also did a great job with the news, which I've said to her already, but I don't mind saying again. She really sounded stressed out during the week, but she had nothing to worry about, it was a great effort.

I really can't say a bad word about any of it. Stephen's column was a good read, Chris' stats should net him a job with Carling Opta and I'm really impressed. I was a bit of a moany git in the first few weeks with some awful columns by Chris Clarke and a totally irrelevant e-fed feature, but it's all come good and no one is happier than me about the situation.

To be fair... I did have a sig for a while that campaigned for me to be put in charge of the International Scene Forum....

Thats what I call pushing your luck, but hey, it worked...

Although that was due to some exceptional circumstances, don't know about the current chances of modship Tajiri San...
